Updating DELTA storage infrastructure

On Wednesday, March 13th, between 8:00am and 12:00 noon, DELTA staff will be updating the software on our Vast storage clusters. Due to the redundant nature of the systems we do not expect any interruption of service during this work.

Update 3-11-2024: This work will be delayed until later in the week.
On Monday, March 11th, between 8:00am and 1:00pm DELTA staff will be performing maintenance on the hardware that runs the DELTA managed services including WolfWare, WolfWare WordPress, and Moodle. There will be a brief (15 minute) outage of all DELTA services during this time. While we do not expect a longer interruption there is always a possibility with this type of work.
Faculty: Off-Campus Telephone Service For LearnTech is down.

Due to a university-wide degradation beginning on March 5, DELTA's LearnTech Help Desk is currently unable to receive calls or voicemails from from off-campus callers. All support requests for Moodle and related course technologies should be sent to learntech@ncsu.edu or through the Help Desk Website (https://delta.ncsu.edu/get-help/) until this issue is resolved.

Update 2024:-03-07: This work will be performed on Tuesday, March 12th, between 1:00 and 4:00 pm Update 2024-02-09: This maintenance has been delayed On Saturday, February 10th, between 7:00 am and 10:00 am, DELTA staff will be providing updates to all Moodle environments, Courses, Projects and Outreach. WolfWare Website sluggishness

Update 11:35am: WolfWare and other DELTA tools seem to be working since 10:45 am. Please contact LearnTech (learntech@ncsu.edu) if you continue to see any issues.
Around 8:30 am on Monday, Jan 22nd, the WolfWare website and several other DELTA online tools including the testing center's proctoring tool began experiencing sluggishness and issues with access. DELTA staff is troubleshooting the issue and attempting to resolve the issues.
fix for Brickyard users in Moodle
Moodle 2324 Degradation

DELTA staff have noticed occasional high system load yesterday (1/8) and this morning (1/9) on the Moodle Courses 2324 instance. We have taken steps to try and prevent any full outages from occurring but it is possible users may have noticed intermittent sluggishness and/or connection timeouts both during the day yesterday and this morning. We will continue to monitor closely and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
WolfWare Outage

Brickyard users accounts have been having issues in Moodle related to multiple Shibboleth plugins. At 4:00pm today (January 11th) DELTA staff will be implementing a fix for the issue. No interruption to service is expected.
WolfWare move to new production servers

On Tuesday, January 2nd, between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm, DELTA staff will be moving the WolfWare website and the apps.delta site to new production servers. While we do not expect any extended interruptions during this time, there will be a short (< 10 minute) outage during this time.
WolfWare website Brickyard Login Support

On Wednesday, January 3rd, between 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm DELTA staff will be adding support to allow Brickyard users to log into the WolfWare website. While we do not expect any major interruptions, the WolfWare website may not be fully functional during this time.
Moodle plugin updates

On Monday, December 18th, between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm, DELTA staff will be performing updates to various plugins on Moodle Courses2324, Projects, and Outreach services. This work will cause brief (<10 minute) interruptions to each of these services.
WolfWare WordPress maintenance

On Monday, December 18th, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, DELTA staff will be performing maintenance on the WolfWare WordPress service. This work will cause an extended outage of WolfWare WordPress during this time.
Linux server reboots and updates

Monday, December 18th and Tuesday December 19th, DELTA staff will be rebooting various Linux servers to apply system and security updates. While many of the servers can be rebooted without causing any interruptions to services, there are some servers which cannot be rebooted without causing an interruption. Therefore during this time there may be brief (<10 minute) outages for WolfWare, WolfWare WordPress, DELTA websites, and DELTA Testing Center applications. We do not expect any longer interruptions to occur.

Moodle update and plugin updates

On Saturday, November 4th, between 6:30 and 8:30 AM, DELTA staff will be updating the Moodle service. This work will affect all current Moodle service stacks including Courses, Projects, and Outreach. There will be a brief (<10 minute) interruption to each of the Moodle services. We do not expect the work to take the entire window but reserve the larger window in case of unexpected issues.

Migration of WolfWare to new NAS storage

On Monday, October 9th, between 6:00 am and 10:00 am, DELTA staff will be migrating the backing NFS shares for WolfWare and some internal DELTA services such as those hosted on apps.delta.ncsu.edu to new storage. Initial data syncs will be completed ahead of time and this maintenance window will be used to temporarily take the services offline, perform a final sync, re-configure client side mounts, then bring the services back online. We estimate a downtime of up to 1-2 hours while this work is performed.

Reboot primary DELTA firewall

On Saturday, September 9th, between 6:30 am and 8:30 am DELTA staff will be rebooting our primary firewall device. As this is a redundant environment and only one device needs to be rebooted, we do not expect any interruptions to DELTA services.
