Update 2024:-03-07: This work will be performed on Tuesday, March 12th, between 1:00 and 4:00 pm Update 2024-02-09: This maintenance has been delayed On Saturday, February 10th, between 7:00 am and 10:00 am, DELTA staff will be providing updates to all Moodle environments, Courses, Projects and Outreach. During this work each Moodle server will experience a brief (<10 minute) interruption.

Update 11:35am:  WolfWare and other DELTA tools seem to be working since 10:45 am. Please contact LearnTech (learntech@ncsu.edu) if you continue to see any issues.

Around 8:30 am on Monday, Jan 22nd, the WolfWare website and several other DELTA online tools including the testing center's proctoring tool began experiencing sluggishness and issues with access.  DELTA staff is troubleshooting the issue and attempting to resolve the issues.

DELTA staff have noticed occasional high system load yesterday (1/8) and this morning (1/9) on the Moodle Courses 2324 instance.  We have taken steps to try and prevent any full outages from occurring but it is possible users may have noticed intermittent sluggishness and/or connection timeouts both during the day yesterday and this morning.  We will continue to monitor closely and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Brickyard users accounts have been having issues in Moodle related to multiple Shibboleth plugins.  At 4:00pm today (January 11th) DELTA staff will be implementing a fix for the issue.  No interruption to service is expected.

On Tuesday, January 2nd, between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm, DELTA staff will be moving the WolfWare website and the apps.delta site to new production servers. While we do not expect any extended interruptions during this time, there will be a short (< 10 minute) outage during this time.

On Wednesday, January 3rd, between 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm DELTA staff will be adding support to allow Brickyard users to log into the WolfWare website. While we do not expect any major interruptions, the WolfWare website may not be fully functional during this time.

On Monday, December 18th, between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm, DELTA staff will be performing updates to various plugins on Moodle Courses2324, Projects, and Outreach services. This work will cause brief (<10 minute) interruptions to each of these services.

On Monday, December 18th, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, DELTA staff will be performing maintenance on the WolfWare WordPress service. This work will cause an extended outage of WolfWare WordPress during this time.

Monday, December 18th and Tuesday December 19th, DELTA staff will be rebooting various Linux servers to apply system and security updates. While many of the servers can be rebooted without causing any interruptions to services, there are some servers which cannot be rebooted without causing an interruption. Therefore during this time there may be brief (<10 minute) outages for WolfWare, WolfWare WordPress, DELTA websites, and DELTA Testing Center applications. We do not expect any longer interruptions to occur.

On Saturday, November 18th, between 7:00 am and 10:00 am, DELTA staff will be updating various plugins in Moodle.  There will be a brief (<10 minute) interruption of each Moodle service (Courses, Projects, and Outreach) during this time.  We do not anticipate any extended interruptions.

On Friday, November 3rd, between 1:00 and 4:00 PM, DELTA staff will be performing an update to the WolfWare WordPress service. We do not expect any interruption of service during this maintenance.

On Saturday, November 4th, between 6:30 and 8:30 AM, DELTA staff will be updating the Moodle service.  This work will affect all current Moodle service stacks including Courses, Projects, and Outreach.  There will be a brief (<10 minute) interruption to each of the Moodle services.  We do not expect the work to take the entire window but reserve the larger window in case of unexpected issues.

On Monday, October 9th, DELTA staff will be updating the load balancers to the latest tested release. Due to the redundant nature of the system no impact to users is expected.

On Monday, October 9th, between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm DELTA staff will be performing updates to a number of Moodle plugins and will be installing the grademe block. There will be a brief (<10 minute) interruption of each of the Moodle servers (Courses, Projects, and Outreach) during this window.

On Monday, October 9th, between 6:00 am and 10:00 am, DELTA staff will be migrating the backing NFS shares for WolfWare and some internal DELTA services such as those hosted on apps.delta.ncsu.edu to new storage. Initial data syncs will be completed ahead of time and this maintenance window will be used to temporarily take the services offline, perform a final sync, re-configure client side mounts, then bring the services back online. We estimate a downtime of up to 1-2 hours while this work is performed.

On Saturday, September 9th, between 6:30 am and 8:30 am DELTA staff will be rebooting our primary firewall device. As this is a redundant environment and only one device needs to be rebooted, we do not expect any interruptions to DELTA services.

On Saturday, August 26th, between 7:00am and 9:00am, DELTA staff will be applying an update to the Moodle service.  This update will be applied to Courses, Projects, and Outreach servers, and will cause a brief (<5 minute) outage while the update is being applied.  We do not anticipate any extended interruption to the service.

On Tuesday, August 8th, between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm, DELTA staff will be performing maintenance on the Moodle service, including Courses, Projects, and Outreach. There will be minor updates applied for a number of Moodle plugins on all servers, and the WooClap plugin will be added to the Courses server. There will be a brief (<5 minute) interruption to each Moodle service when they are restarted as part of the update process.

On Tuesday, August 8th, between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, DELTA staff will be performing maintenance on the current Moodle Courses server (Courses 2324). We will be migrating the Moodle Courses 2324 file share to new NAS (Network Attached Storage) platform. There will be on outage of Moodle Courses 2324 only during this time. This work will not affect the Projects or Outreach services or older Moodle archives.

On Monday, August 7th, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, DELTA systems staff will be performing power work on the DELTA back end systems. Due to this work, Moodle, WolfWare, WolfWare WordPress, and other DELTA-run services will be offline for an extended period.

On Saturday Morning, 7/29/23 we will be performing a backend migration of the file shares supporting the Moodle Projects and Moodle Outreach instances.  Both Moodle Projects and Moodle Outreach will be offline while this process completes.  Downtime of up to two hours for each instance is possible.  There are no user facing changes with this migration.  This migration is part of decommissioning an older file storage platform that will soon go out of support. 

Note:  No Moodle Courses instances will be impacted during this maintenance.  We will schedule a later maintenance windows for these.
