Course Description
This course offers students an introduction to the field of forensic linguistics. We will begin by defining the basic areas of linguistics and then explore the forensic domain, forensic linguistics, and the various definitions provided by scholars. Students will also learn about the theoretical frameworks and typical methodologies employed in forensic linguistics studies. Topics such as authorship identification, linguistic profiling, plagiarism, forensic acoustics, transcription, and the intersection between forensic linguistics and the legal system will be covered. Likewise, representations of forensic linguistics in popular culture will be explored, along with the analysis of real case studies conducted in Spain, Latin America, and the United States.
