MUS 160
Guitar Ensemble
Section: 001

Course Description

This class exists to help you unlock new possibilities on the guitar, expand your musical potential, and develop your unique voice as a guitarist. We'll practice scales and chord voicings that will help you play comfortably anywhere on the fretboard. We'll talk about how to use written music--including standard notation, tablature, and the Nashville number system--as a tool for learning, remembering, and communicating musical ideas to others. We'll focus not only on knowledge and technique, but also creativity and expression. We'll improvise, compose our own solos, and explore the tonal possibilities of the instrument. Electric or acoustic guitarists are welcome to join. Students who enroll should have some prior experience on guitar, including familiarity with common chord shapes and basic right-hand technique.
